Choosing the right riser recliner, mobility scooter or powerchair is easier when you can try it out for yourself.
If getting to our showroom isn’t possible, we’ll bring a selection out to you instead.
We cover everywhere within roughly 40 miles of our Irvine showroom, including Kilmarnock, Ayr, Troon, Prestwick, Largs, Saltcoats, Kilwinning and the surrounding towns
What We Offer
We provide free home assessments for rise and recline chairs, mobility scooters and powerchairs. The service is designed for anyone who is housebound, doesn’t drive, or would find a trip to the showroom difficult.
There’s no charge for the visit and no obligation to buy anything on the day. One of our advisors comes out with brand new equipment from our showroom for you to try in your own home, in the setting where it will actually be used.
Before the Visit
We’ll have a chat on the phone first so we know what to bring. That conversation makes a real difference, because it tells us which two or three items are likely to be the best fit for your needs.
For a mobility scooter, we’ll ask what you want to use it for. Someone who needs to lift it into a car boot needs something very different from someone storing it in a garage and driving into town on it. Consider the types of journeys it will be used for and where it will be stored. If it will be lifted in a car boot, who is doing the lifting?
For a powerchair, we’ll ask whether you plan to use it indoors. If so, we’ll want to check it fits through your doorways and can turn in your hallway and living room, which is something you simply cannot test in a showroom.
For a rise and recline chair, we’ll ask about your height, your build and any pain or mobility issues, and even colour scheme so we bring a choice of chairs that are likely to be the best fit.
What Happens During the Visit
Your advisor will arrive with two or three items chosen around what you’ve told us. You’ll have the chance to try each one properly: sit in the chairs and test the rise and recline functions, drive the scooter or powerchair, and ask anything you like about comfort, support, controls or suitability.
If it’s a powerchair or scooter, we’ll take it round your home and through your doorways, or out to your car or garage, so you can see how it fits into your daily routine before you commit to anything.
There’s no pressure to make a decision on the day.
Buying on the Day
If you decide you’d like to go ahead, you’re welcome to order there and then.
Mobility scooters and powerchairs can usually be bought on the spot. If the one we’ve brought out is right for you, it can stay with you that day rather than being taken away again.
Rise and recline chairs: you can buy your preferred chair on the day if it is the ideal fit for your needs. We also bring fabric swatches along to your assessment; if you have found the right chair but would like a different finish, we can order that up for you.
Delivery Times
If you want to choose a specific fabric for your chair, it will take between four and six weeks to arrive. If you need something sooner, we also offer quick delivery on a selection of chairs in certain fabrics, so it’s worth asking your advisor what’s available if timing matters to you.
Scooters and powerchairs are generally available immediately if we have them in stock in the showroom.
Who This Service is For
Home assessments are particularly useful for anyone who:
- Is unable to leave the house easily
- Doesn’t drive or have access to transport
- Would find a showroom visit tiring or difficult
- Needs to check a powerchair fits through their doorways
- Wants to see whether a scooter will fit in their car or garage
- Wants to try equipment in the setting where it will actually be used
How This Compares to the Showroom
If you’re able to make the journey, the showroom gives you more to choose from. We have a much wider range on display, so there’s more to sit in, drive and compare in one visit.
Practicality limits what we can bring to a home assessment, so a showroom visit will always show you the fullest picture. But a home visit shows you something the showroom can’t: whether the equipment works in your actual home, with your own doorways, car and garage. Plenty of customers find that’s the more useful test.
Booking Your Home Assesment
To arrange a visit, get in touch with our team and tell us a bit about what you’re looking for. We’ll ask a few questions about how and where you plan to use the equipment, then bring out the options most likely to suit. There’s never any cost or obligation involved.
You may also want to look at our hire options if you need something short term, or our repairs and servicing if you already own equipment that needs attention.
Whether you visit us in Irvine or we come to you, the aim is the same: helping you find something that genuinely works for you and for your home.
