The gates at The Ayr Racecourse will be opening on Saturday,
9th May for the spectacle that is the Ayr County Show and Thistle Help are exhibiting in the food, craft and shopping marquee.

This year being the 181st Show in their 190th Year, with its winning formula of celebrating the traditional and embracing the future the Ayr County Show has earned its place as a ‘must do’ event on the calendars of both the farming community and families looking for a fun-packed, good value day out. The event includes exhibition & competition of many types of animals, Trade Stands, Crafts, Vintage Tractor Display, SWI Competitions, Young Farmers Competitions, Family Entertainment, Music, Children’s Marquee and ‘TT Ayr· (Trucks & Tractor) Show. Food & Drink is very much part of the event creating the very important link ‘Field to Fork’. The Ayrshire Agricultural Association are committed to keeping this event going forward with a good range of attractions throughout the show field whilst not losing the true agricultural roots of Ayr County Show.

Ayrshire Cancer Support Visit

Laura recently visited Ayrshire Cancer Support in Ayr to see their new centre. I was warmly welcomed from the moment I went in. This space is so calming and has a home from home feel to it.
If you are facing a diagnosis, undergoing treatment, caring for a loved one, or coping with loss, Ayrshire Cancer Support are there to help.
They offer a wide range of services including a drop in centre, cancer support specialists, children and young people support, counselling, complimentary therapies, patient transport services, groups, courses, workshops and patient information.

Ayrshire Hospice Go Purple Coffee Morning

We recently visited Ayrshire Hospice to hand over a cheque for £1,925.00 from our recent Go Purple coffee morning fundraiser. We are delighted to have raised this amount of money 💜
Thank you to Fundraising Manager Shalane Breen for giving us a tour of the new facility on Racecourse Road, Ayr. It is a beautiful space and feels so homely and welcoming. We also had a cuppa in their new coffee shop which is open to the public. Well worth a visit for some lovely home made food and tasty cakes.

Donation of Bowling Wheelchair to Finding Your Feet Amputee Charity – Ayrshire Group

We recently visited the Ayrshire group of Finding Your Feet Amputee Charity in the Galleon Centre, Kilmarnock. We were delighted to donate a wheelchair suitable for bowling to allow more members to access the green and enjoy a game of bowls.
It was lovely to see Cor Hutton, Gordon MacDougall and the rest of the members again. We hope you get great use out of the chair 😊

Volunteering Work at Hansel in Symington

On Wednesday 23rd July, Laura, Adele and Claire volunteered at Hansel Foundation where they assisted the grounds maintenance team. They learned so much about horticulture and had lots of fun! It was good to support this great charity who provide a range of services to people with additional support needs and their families. If you have a business and can spare some of your time or your employees time to help in the Hansel estate, they always welcome the help. Our team were very well looked after with breakfast and lunch too. The Hansel team were so welcoming.

Callum Stevenson was our Employee of the Month in June! Callum works in our warehouse/delivery department. He started with us in January and has done amazing since joining us. He keeps our warehouse in ship shape and delivers all our customers orders with great care. Callum is also keen to learn the repair side of the business which we are delighted at. Fraser our engineer got awarded employee of the month in March! He is very hard working and had such a busy spell at the beginning of the year. He works great under pressure and we are confident in his level of service he provides to our customers when he is out on the road repairing their mobility equipment. Keep up the good work Fraser 👏

Our Employee of the Month for February was Shara Sneddon. Shara is George’s Personal Assistant and supports him in his role as Managing Director. They look after the finances and oversee the Health & Safety within the business. Shara is very efficient at her role and is the most organised person ever! Kiltwalk 2025

We recently took part in the Glasgow Kiltwalk to raise money for Hansel in Symington. We raised £873.00 which will help towards the fundraising to renovate the bathroom in one of their residential services. The weather wasn’t great but we all still had a fab day and everyone’s spirits were up! Thank you for everyone who donated to this event, we really appreciate the support.

New addition to Team Thistle!
At the end of 2024 we had Callum Stevenson join us for a work placement through Equal Supported Employment in North Ayrshire through their Heads Up! Training Academy. Callum took to the warehouse/delivery operative role so well and settled into our team with ease. As a result of this, we were delighted to offer Callum a part time role within our warehouse/repair team. Callum happily accepted and we are delighted to have him on board.

LIFE’S LITTLE RAINBOWS HOIST DONATION

George and Laura recently visited Tracey at Life’s Little Rainbows in Kilwinning to donate a mobile hoist. Tracey was needing a mobile hoist to enable non ambulant children access to the trampoline. We were delighted to donate a hoist to be used within this great space. What an amazing facility for children with ASN. This space is perfect for the children to be themselves, have fun and enjoy company of other children. We wish Tracey all the success with her new venture, we will definitely be spreading the word 😊

ANOTHER HAPPY CUSTOMER!

Here is our lovely customer Jeanette Haining from Prestwick, who had a home assessment with us recently for a new riser recliner chair. Jeanette loved the new chair we had taken out for the assessment that much, she decided to buy that actual chair, which meant she could use it right away. Donna Pepworth assisted me to try-out and decide which chair would be suitable for my purpose. I was relaxed, unrushed, offered plenty time and her expert help to choose which chair would be best for my personal needs. I was very grateful that there was no promotive selling.
Donna, very carefully, explained the administrative procedure, covered the finance arrangement, signatures, and delivery schedule. She is an asset to your company.
The office phoned a couple of days before delivery to confirm that I would be at home on that day.
On delivery day I got another phone call to confirm I was at home. Thereafter, within an hour it was delivered. Two very professional men brought the chair, checked it out, plugged it in and demonstrated the controls. Their manner was most considerate and helpful…creditable representatives for your company.

We recently visited Greenan Manor Care Home in Ayr to offer a Christmas Shopping Experience for the residents and relatives. It was a great day and the residents loved shopping for shoes, slippers, hosiery and much more from the comfort of their own home. There was Christmas tunes playing, we had our Christmas jumpers on and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

New STV Advert
We recently shot our new STV advert with the amazing videographer Jonathan Biggins. We invited some of our lovely customers along to star in the nee advert and they were all pro’s! We loved every minute of it as usual and the more we do them, the easier they get. Our new advert really captures the essence of Thistle Help – which is putting the customer first at all times. We love how our customers feel at ease and welcome when they visit our showrooms. Without our customers, we wouldn’t have Thistle Help Limited.

Wow! What a day we had for our Ayrshire Hospice Go Purple Coffee Morning! The place was buzzing and it was wonderful to see all our customers, friends & family turn up to raise money for such an amazing charity! Not sure how much we have raised, we are excited to find out and we will let everyone know. The Go Purple team also popped in for a cuppa and a cake 💜

A huge Happy 15th Anniversary to Siobhan McKinnon, our Operations Manager. Siobhan has been with us practically from day one through the highs and lows of running our business. There have certainly been some challenging times over the years, but some great times also. Siobhan is so dedicated to Thistle Help and works incredibly hard. We are so lucky to have her. We recently celebrated our 16th Anniversary on 24th May 2023! What a rollercoaster of a ride it has been so far. We are so proud of the business we have built up and the team we have behind us. We regularly have customers visiting to our showrooms who require an occasional use wheelchair. In some circumstances­, the attendant who would be pushing the wheelchair would find it difficult to do so. This is when we would recommend a power assisted wheelchair to make things a little easier on them.

The Power Push Wheelchair is a revolutionary power assisted wheelchair that makes manoeuvring around a lot easier! It removes all the strain and effort for the attendant pushing. It has an exceptionally lightweight lithium battery and aluminium frame and is fast and easy to fold for transportation and storage. It has a unique patented design which allows the motor to match the attendants needs from slow to fast walking speed. This product is really simple to use when steering, power driving and reversing.

The efficient brushless ‘free-rolling’ motor guarantees many hours of use from a single charge allowing you to get out and about much easier. The Power Assist really is the complete mobility solution which includes wheelchair, battery, and charger.

The Power Push from One Rehab comes with either the Gravity Lite wheelchair (max user weight 100kg) or the Sonic Plus Wheelchair (max user weight 125kg). LIFE’S LITTLE RAINBOWS HOIST DONATION

George and Laura recently visited Tracey at Life’s Little Rainbows in Kilwinning to donate a mobile hoist. Tracey was needing a mobile hoist to enable non ambulant children access to the trampoline. We were delighted to donate a hoist to be used within this great space. What an amazing facility for children with ASN. This space is perfect for the children to be themselves, have fun and enjoy company of other children. We wish Tracey all the success with her new venture, we will definitely be spreading the word 😊

ANOTHER HAPPY CUSTOMER!

Here is our lovely customer Jeanette Haining from Prestwick, who had a home assessment with us recently for a new riser recliner chair. The office phoned a couple of days before delivery to confirm that I would be at home on that day.
On delivery day I got another phone call to confirm I was at home. Thereafter, within an hour it was delivered. Two very professional men brought the chair, checked it out, plugged it in and demonstrated the controls. Their manner was most considerate and helpful…creditable representatives for your company.

Wow! What a day we had for our Ayrshire Hospice Go Purple Coffee Morning! Our Managing Director and Operations Manager have signed up for Lean Six Sigma course in April through Ayrshire College.

Lean Six Sigma training and certification introduces the use of more complex Six Sigma statistical methods as well as Lean Leadership styles and developing a Lean Culture in the workplace. It will enhance problem solving skills and leadership skills and stimulate them to take positive action for process improvement. George and Siobhan are very much looking forward to doing this course.
